So my agent says...

January 10, 2009
"this is just too familiar of a plot. Sorry."

And I think, "Oh fuck it."

Cheers,
Mark Terry

I hate when people use sorry like that. I don't know why, but it irritates me, LOL.

Well, anyway, I am sorry. :-)

Seems kind of a lame comment. An awful lo of great books have pretty common plots.

As I said to my wife, "This is totally useless to me."

What book? If it's the monster hunter book, I know I was captivated by the idea of it!!

I didn't see the whole proposal, but that's just bullsh*t. You need to phone me, because I have a story to tell you about my YA sale to Penguin--three books--a few years ago. Aw hell, I'll post it here.

I had an idea to do a book in which a young girl discovers she is a descendent of the REAL Lucy from Bram Stoker's Dracula. I did research into the Lyceum Theatre and Henry Irving and all that. Anyway, I pitched it, but they bought a second pitch (ROCK MY WORLD) because they wanted "edgy." Lo and behold a YEAR later, B&N says to them, "Vampires are getting hot again, you have any YA vampire books?" They came back to me, bought the pitch and a second book. EVERYTHING's been done before. I thought the idea was very clever with the right touch of snark . . . I didn't read it (would be happy to) but I don't think my story is THAT unusual. All right, maybe a little but still . . . .

It seems like your agent isn't really serving your needs or interests here.

This person is supposed to be your advocate for your books, not trying to convince you your ideas suck before they're even fully out of the gate.

And EVERY plot is familiar to anyone who has read more than 50 books in their lifetime.

That is such a cop out.

For what it's worth, I remember the idea because when I first read it, I thought, "That's pretty cool!" And I hadn't heard it before. I see what you mean about the comment being useless.

Do you think that theguaid wars gold in the game is important, many players want to in the game has moregw gold, so in the game they effort to do the tasks, sometimes they spend a little money tobuy guild war gold, so I think if now I had enough cheap guild wars gold them sold to them, I can earn a lot money.
