Internet Marketing

May 6, 2010
A writer friend brought this to my attention and I agree completely. (And no, I didn't write it).

Cheers,

I thought this was very interesting. Question for you . . . what portion of sales DOES an author control? I mean, if you do 100 signings, will THAT make a book go viral? 250 blog events--will that? I mean, in thinking about it . . . there's only so much of a percentage of readers who even READ blogs. We all tend to swim in the same pond. It can be an illusion that you are "doing" something and controlling something, but are you?

That's the question of the ages, I guess. I don't know. How many signings? There 4000 or 5000 bookstores in the country. Does a dozen book signings make a difference? I have no idea.

Like the writer of that post, I'm reluctant to say, "Don't promote, it's a waste of time," but really, what the hell are we all doing?
