Chasing The Dime

May 14, 2010
Yeah, I've been thinking about money today. Yesterday I interviewed Jon Land. He's a bestselling thriller author and his newest book is STRONG JUSTICE. He's a really nice guy, too. He's written 28 books (or maybe 29, he's written so many he can't be sure which it is). He's also written screenplays, including one for a produced movie, DIRTY DEEDS, which alas, is not based on my novel of the same name.

So, money. Why am I bringing this up?

When I called him for a scheduled interview, he asked me to hang on for a minute, he was finishing up writing a nagging email to someone who owes him money.

Bestselling author, 28 or 29 books, and he's still nagging people who owe him money to pay up.

I do this in my work-life on a fairly regular basis. The key similarity might be: writer.

I'm going to hire someone to send nagging emails for me. Then, the person I hire will have to hire someone to send their nagging emails in order to get paid from me.

And so forth.

I think I just found the solution to our high unemployment rate.

I was recently reading how Oscar Wilde, even as he was dying, was dunning Frank Harris for money Wilde thought he was owed over the rights to a play. I doubt he was even being witty about it.

LOL, yeah. I was just thinking how I wished I could stop working with one of my pubs. But no. For the rest of my freakin' life, I'm stuck with dealing with them if I want to get paid my royalties. Which sucks. But yeah. I'd kill to not have to deal with this task.

Definitely not as bad as chasing dead-beat piano parents for money, though.
