The Declaration of Independence:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

If things keep going in the direction they are, we're going to have to take advantage of that last Right.

Every time I imagine the direction things are going, I'm astonished by my conclusions. Right now I can't believe gas prices and food prices and health care prices. Unless BIG changes are made, society is going to be very different in five years.

Your posting that made me think of one of my favorite movies 'National Treasure' when Abigal said 'people don't really talk like that', and Ben said 'yeah but they think like that'. Terrific line, sadly too many people do not even think like that anymore. LOL

I am reminded, these last 7 years of V for Vendetta:

"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people."

I believe it was Stephen Parrish once a long while ago who asked me something along the lines of what can be done. I believe revolution is in order.

I used to live outside the U.S. as a child (in Bermuda). My family was supposed to move to France next, and my dad decided instead to take us back to America because he was afraid we were losing our "American-ness." Now he says he very much wishes he had packed us all up and taken us to Australia for good. Both he and my mother encourage me to consider taking my family overseas . . . even if it means I don't see my parents again. But that would be difficult for me. After they passed, who knows.
