Senator Joe Biden

August 24, 2008
So, Barack Obama chose Joe Biden for VP. Interesting and not surprising, except...

Biden has a reputation, as it is described in Dana Milbank's "Homo Politicus" for not having a speedbump between his brain and his mouth. So wait for it, he's bound to say something really, really stupid between now and November.

It's going to be interesting.

Now, McCain. (Mr. Inarticulate, a worthy heir to George W. Bush's lack of verbal coherence). What do you think? Romney? My bet is Romney, in an attempt to look young and presidential and possibly help deliver Michigan. (Keeping in mind that McCain will probably be remembered most in Michigan for more or less saying, "Those manufacturing jobs are gone forever, get over it." It's probably true, but I mean, really, is that how you run for office?)

Cheers,
Mark Terry

Yes. I'm tired of mealy-mouthed politicians. We need a dose of reality. We're adults; we can (supposedly) take it.

Kitty,
I thought it was an interesting statement. The problem, of course, is that voters want hope, not the truth. I've been arguing with myself whether voters want solutions. Personally I lean more toward wanting a technocrat in office that has a large folder filled with potential policy solutions. By that definition, I'm more a fan of Hillary Clinton. McCain doesn't seem to be offering much of anything and Obama seems to be offering optimism and hope, although if he doesn't back it up with some solutions I think he'll fade over the next couple months.

But maybe we shouldn't get me going on this topic...

Let's just say that I'm not a Democrat, and I don't care much for any of the candidates this year. Bleh!

I really prefer the "lit" bloggers refrain from politics, but that's their business. One of my very dearest friends is a writer, who makes her living writing, and she's a liberal. We've remained the best of friends for years because we accept that we don't agree politically, and we never mention the subject.

It seems there should be a way to offer hope with truth...say "we gave all the manufacturing jobs to those overseas and that's that...but THESE are the new jobs we see Americans embracing..." and have a concrete plan.

I was disappointed with the choice of Biden.

I was disappointed by his selection of Biden... this is probably because I would like to think of Obama as something other than the usual empty suit political hack (even though I am old enough to know better)... Looking at it objectively, I think it was a dumb move because Biden (who may be a perfectly nice guy in real life) is not a senior statesman, he is just another Senatorial time-server, and to attempt to sell him as a statesman is ridiculous and insulting. Also, it just opens up the possibilities for the McCain campaign to run ads with clips of Biden praising McCain and putting Obama down as not having any experience.

It would be cool to see McCain doing something original, such as picking Alaska's Sarah Palin as his running-mate, but I doubt that he has that much coolness.
